Stiders looking to grow - want new members

Road Cycling
Currently Striders have a well attended Sunday ride that meets every Sunday morning outside the police station. This very fit group of cyclists assemble at 7.30am and usually ride for three hours . They usually have a course of about 60 to 90 kms and at the end the group meets at Santeez cafe for some social time and rehydration. They are quick!
On 20th March Striders will launch a new 8am riding group that is specially designed to cater for cyclists who are new to road cycling and want a group that will cycle at a more relaxed pace. The first part of the ride will involve a shorter loop that will return to Kerikeri town after about 1 hour. If you are new to cycling on the road – the first hour may be enough and you could leave the group there. The ride will however normally keep on going for another hour or two after that to the many and various destinations we have.
The main focus of this “Traditional Sunday Ride “ will be a ride at a pace that everyone will be able to handle. If you must go really fast you will be encouraged to join the 7.30 group. If you need endurance and a relaxed friendly conversational paced group , the 8am group will be the right group for you. This may be the perfect group to join if you want to begin a gradual build-up to get fit and head off in late November to participate in the Lake Taupo cycle challenge.

Sea kayaking
Striders is launching a sea kayaking group to cater for the growing number of people who have sea kayaks and would like to build skills and experience and be part of a group. Northland is blessed with some of the best coastline for sea kayaking in New Zealand and it is well overdue that we offer sea kayaking as one of the things we do. Initially we anticipate that this group may meet on Saturday’s at Opito bay for some group paddles. We will have organised skill building sessions , Eskimo rolling training, rescue techniques and some overnight expedition options on the program.
