Committee Matters

Your committee has met for a second time. Matters currently being discussed include:
Kerikeri Striders involvement with Keri Half Marathon. This requires co-ordination by our club with Sport Northland well prior to the event to ensure Striders are aware of our commitment for personal and duties on the day. We liaise with Ali Edwards. This event provides a considerable portion of our annual income and we should all assist where we can.

Striders Club membership remains at $15.00 and currently includes entry into the Half Marathon, this is limited to numbers so conditions apply.

Discussion on the clubrooms and how we can best utilize this facility continues. It is completed and the intention is to promote some evening spin sessions during the winter and putting in some additional fitness equipment. The committee welcomes suggestions.

Activities

From all accounts there is considerable interest in the Kerikeri Rotary Club’s innovative project to promote our Far North District with a multisport event from the Hokianga to Kerikeri. Go to http://www.northerncrossing.co.nz/ The event is on the 15th May 2010 and comprises three disciplines, running kayaking and cycling and can be contested by individuals or teams . Options include duathalon cycling and running. Ask around if you need a cyclist, runner or kayaker, there are lots of keen people out there.

The cycling fraternity have been very active, Sunday rides and monthly time trials continue to be well attended and a good variety of rides are programmed. In particular 14 riders enjoyed a well organized ride up to Ahipara and back a few weekends ago. Great fun, some tired legs, great social interaction in the afternoon and evening after the first day and very good accommodation. The food was great, plenty of sustenance for the ride home the next day. Thanks to Roger Alison our organizer and Colleen for running our supplies up north. Well done.

For April we have planned a social weekend Pre Winter Pacific Island Holiday at Motukawanui Island in the Cavalli Group off Matauri Bay. The date 24th and 25th April. Accomodation in the DOC hut on the island. Either take a ride across in a boat or paddle “your own canoe”. Graham Rye is co-ordinating the weekend , call him on 401 7349 or 027 480 1030 for any info.

We’ll have a rest in May with the spotlight on the Northern Crossing, other than a club social get together one early evening, venue to be advised. We are thinking will look to run the club trailer and mountain bikes down country in June. Probably Rotorua, more to follow.

The club newsletter is available here on the website and we will post one on the notice board at Santeez, if you are aware of others who may be interested please advise one of the committee.
We welcome all suggestions and comments to keep our membership active and well informed.
